2026-11-01 –, Seminar Room 4
This hands-on tutorial introduces participants to Kubernetes through practical
exercises rather than lectures. Instead of building a cluster from scratch, participants
connect to a pre-configured Kubernetes environment and learn how applications are
represented inside a cluster.
Using a simple containerised scientific web application, participants progressively
build a complete Kubernetes deployment by creating the minimum resources
required for a production-style application including Deployment, Service, Ingress,
and Persistent Volume Claim (PVC). Along the way, participants inspect running
resources, explore the Kubernetes controls, and learn how YAML manifests define
application behaviour.
The tutorial is aimed at attendees with little or no previous Kubernetes experience.
Primary Learning Objectives
After completing this tutorial participants will be able to:
- Explain the core Kubernetes architecture
- Navigate a Kubernetes cluster using kubectl
- Read and understand Kubernetes YAML manifests
- Use kubespec.dev as a Kubernetes reference
- Deploy an application using core Kubernetes resources
- Expose an application through Services and Ingress
- Attach persistent storage to an application
- Inspect and troubleshoot deployed resources
